Kobelco relaunches the SK17SR-3E mini excavator

The Japanese manufacturer's new model includes a number of new design features.

Kobelco is a recognised leading manufacturer of excavators from 1 to 90 tonnes, with a particular focus on the development of its mini excavator range. Even after a machine has been launched, Kobelco's product development team works closely with dealers and customers to further develop their machines. This is the case with Kobelco's SK17SR-3E, which has just been relaunched with a number of new features and important design improvements.

Mini excavators are often used for landscaping and small construction or industrial projects, and operators often spend many hours in the cab. With this in mind, the working environment in Kobelco's SK17SR-3E has been significantly upgraded with a great Grammer seat that reclines for better operator comfort. Furthermore, wrist rests have been installed instead of armrests to reduce strain on the operator. All switches inside the cab are equipped with backlighting and LED work lights are installed as standard on the boom to improve visibility.

When developing our mini excavators, it's important for us to ensure that performance doesn't come at the expense of machine size. In the case of the SK17SR-3E, not only is the machine competitive in terms of stick force (8.7 kN) and bucket force (15.2 kN), but the newly designed and comfortable cab has also been redesigned to be particularly appealing to operators.

Product Manager Peter Stuijt

Ideal for jobsites with limited space, the Kobelco SK17SR-3E combines compact design with long reach. The result is a machine with efficient performance, excellent manoeuvrability and durability. The canopy model has no rear overhang and the cab model has a short rear overhang. Both models provide excellent accessibility when working close to walls or when digging near trenches. The machine has a turning radius of 180° within a working width of just 2 metres and thus has a small operating footprint.

The SK17SR-3E's extendable belts (990 mm) provide extra accessibility in confined workspaces, allowing the machine to enter narrow openings with a width of just 1 metre. When the belt is extended (1320 mm) it provides good working stability.

In terms of durability, the SK17SR-3E features a forged boom top and pins tightened with bolts and a boom cylinder guard that protects the cylinder from damage during work. The machine's hydraulic hoses are housed inside the thick cast iron swing bracket for added durability. As part of Kobelco's commitment to reducing its environmental footprint, the SK17SR-3E now fulfils STAGE V requirements.
