A good S-gate should be stable, perfectly correct and symmetrically built. A skewed or unstable gate can damage both the attachment to the machine and the slewing/tiltrotator if you have one. The gate attachment should fulfil the machine manufacturer's standard for dimensions of symmetrical quick couplings, the so-called S-standard. ROBUST grinder does that and more.
The shafts in ROBUST gates are made of high-quality machine shaft steel, C45/SS1650. They are bent down at the ends so that the shaft will self-lock the side pieces in an inward direction, making them guaranteed stable (unlike gates with shafts that run freely in the side pieces and are only secured with the welding joint at the end). The side pieces are made of 355 steel and are drilled to provide a perfect and stable fit for the recessed shaft ends. On the outside, where the axle ends and side pieces are joined, the holes in the side pieces and the ends of the axles are bevelled to provide a strong (and hidden) weld connection.
To maximise stability between the gate and the attachment, supports can be welded to the sides of the gate attachment towards the ends of the shafts. The side supports in combination with the self-locking shafts on the inside and the drilled side pieces then provide a very stable gate attachment.
Facts: The standard for quick couplings for grinders
The S-standard was developed by the Swedish industry organisation Maskinleventoranerna. The standard simplifies the supply of attachments to the machines. Another advantage of the S-standard is that the wedge-based attachment design provides a high level of safety compared with many other types of attachment. Low construction height and low weight are further advantages. The S-grid attachment is basically maintenance-free.
